Now is the present. Or is it the present is now. Both. The present is the present. *L*

The present becomes the past in a blink of an eye, within the passing of the day; so I have to be grateful for the present.

The gift of time. The gift of now, that becomes a memory. Assuming its being remembered.

Best Intangible Present:
Time with the kids. They are well adjusted for the most part. They are healthy, productive people doing positive things contributing to society. They are not suffering with diseases (that I know of anyway), they are not incarcerated and they are not on posters hanging in the post office. My kids crack me up. I miss hearing their laughter and them ragging on everybody so that everybody else will rag on them too. The siblings are their own greatest and harshest critics and at the same time their strongest supporters. I am so proud of my “three stooges” for being as goofey as they are and as serious they will always be.

When my kids were little I often wondered what would happen if I wasn’t around and that would make me sad. Now that they are grown I know that if I’m not around they would be all okay because they would continue to take good care of themselves and one another.

Best Tangible Present:
Round trip airfare to Honolulu Apr 5-18, 2006. Class reunion here I come! Wait, wait, wait, I gotta go gym loose weight get all buff. So wen I go home I can just pig out and get momona again. No fear, I get my lavalava/pareau ready. 3 yards material pretty much covers it, right? *L*

Best Practicle Present(s):
Channel perfume, Henri Bendel candles (you know the expensive froufrou kine from Bath&Body Works), a CD I asked for, Victoria Secret gift set (gosh my daughtas have good taste)

Best I-don’t-know-why-you-gave-it-to-me gift:
A medium size ceramic piece of two white seals. Cute but why? Collect dust? Chutzkies?

Best You-know-I-needed-this-and-will-use-it present:
Gift card(s)

Best I-have-one-but-now-that-I-have-a-newer-one-I’ll-use-it present:
Toaster

Best Game present:
Hawaiian Glyphs: Hawaii’s talk story game; a uniquely interactive experience with Hawaii’s ancient past.
Personally I had never heard of it. But my niece always sends me unique local gifts.

Best Arts & Craft present:
A beach bag/towel from Lana’i. Made by my niece’s friend mom. Its a towel that folds into a bag. I’m so ready to go beach now. Maya de bitch? Wea da bitch?

Best culturally significant present:
5 lbs of Hawaiian Salt, direct from da Salt Ponds of Kauai. It was such a surprise to receive that from my friends in Lawai.

Best WTF comment about presents:
Son: “Mom, would it be rude to tell people to just give me the dollar and not the STUFF from the Dollar Store?”
Mom: “Yes. Give it to someone who needs it.”
Son: “Does anybody want this? Here Grandma wrap this up again and give it to your friends.”

Our family is all about re-gifting and trading. My MIL & her sister are elderly and they have all that they need so at Christmas they are always the first ones to say “I don’t need this or I have 2 of these, who wants this or who needs this?”

Presents are always nice. Its the thought that counts. Really. I mean at least you were thought of right. Then again sometimes people feel obligated. You know, she got me something so I HAVE TO get her something. I’m not good at giving gifts because I always want to get something I can’t afford or buy one get one free or buy two cause I want one too. Thats bad. I’m thinking a $10 or $20 gift card to everyone next year.

I’m thinking Christmas is way too much about the commercialism of it all and gift cards are the way to go. Have the people go do their own shopping.

Like I said, the present is the present; the gift of Time together.
