Having work with a lot of young people, I can’t help but notice there is a difference in work ethic. Or maybe its just me using a select few to compare to the world as I know it. *L*
May be its a generational thing. But more so I think its what a person has learned from their own environment along with the individuals attitude. I think my perception is maybe considered “old school” but thats the way I was raised and schooled.
Like if I start work at 8:00am then I am there and 7:45am or earlier. Anything later then 7:45am for me feels late. By the time I get a cup of tea or anything to munch on, say g’morning to peoples & talkstory lilobit or listen to the latest drama of the current drama queen its past 15 ninutes.
The ideal situation is you start work at 8sharp but in reality it takes a 15-20 minutes before you actually get into gear. So alot of times if you get to work at 7:55 it’ll be almost 8:30 after you get coffee, talkstory and listen to other peoples drama. So really there is down time as oppose to work time before work starts.
Sometimes its just irritating when people are consistantly not being productive when they should be and most others are so shouldn’t they get with the program? Or am I just knitpicking?
Also some people use their lunch time to run errands and respectfully so its their time. But when they come back from their lunch time with their lunch, then they will eat their lunch at their desk. BUT their hour or 30mins pau and dey stay eating so really its plus 20-30 minutes more.
Well all that has to do with management. Its how an office is managed and if you don’t tell people they assume its acceptable. I’m just a worker bee, what do I know accept how to work. *L*
I’ve been “called in” to do jobs bosses think will take 3 days or a week. When in reality if someone just focus on it; it can be done in a day or two. Shifting files and/or packing up 1 year of fical records for storage does not take a week, it takes one day of intense labor. Not many office workers are into the physical labor part. I think catchup being done by me could be avoided if people change their style of NOT letting things pile up. But then I wouldn’t have my pay-off-credit-cards money. *L*
I’ve always had a job since I was 16years old. The pineapple fields was my first intense labor job and I had so much fun. My Fahdah did not want me to work in the fields because he knew how hard it was working out in the fields was; plus he said I was “too little” grown men had hard time doing hoe hana or picking pine 8 hrs. My Fahdah’s logic was it would make me so sick I would end up in da hospital. But I insisted and I got to do it and it was the best.
I’ve worked at da cannery; I was a packer. No can be trimma, cause even doe get Filipino blood that don’t mean I good wit one knife. *L* I worked at Waipahu McDonalds when it first opened; when had da Sky Slide right down da road. Yeah I’m dat young. You got a problem wit dat? *L*
I’m just saying a persons work ethic is a reflection of a persons upbringing and the person’s feeling for the job. *L*
