For decades I’ve lived up NORTH. North to me means coldass places that snow, usually north of I-40. Now I live in the Valley of the Sun and its “freezing.” Oh yeah its da HIGH Desert. (as oppose to high dessert LOL) There has been freeze warnings two nights in a row here and yesterday morning there was frost! FROST! This is not Flagstaff. Flagstaff (North on I-17 for about 2 hrs) has had 20 degree weather for a month now. Now they are freezing.
Its cold in the Valley of the Sun because compared to 115 heat anything below 70 is cold. I think its funny that somebody in my hula class came to class in ski pants ova jeans. Its cold here but NOT dat cold. Not yet.
My poor daughta #2 called me yestaday and said “MOM its a blizzard!” They had a snow day yesterday. In fact she walked out of her place to go warm up her car, and BOOM right on her ass. She’s not hurt hurt, but her wrist hurts cause that what she used to brace her self. They had sleeting rain & snow, sleeting rain & snow, so of course its layers of ice and snow.
I don’t miss snow conditions. It is pretty and nice and all but, nah us go beach moe betta. Maybe I don’t miss snow conditions because I don’t miss having to drive in it. Snow is nice if you’re home safe and no have to go no wheres. But I’ve always had to go work. Driving in snow is very stressful and tension filled. Now if there was only ME on the road, that would be ok. But ususally there are others on the road. Watching somebody spinning into you or towards you is spooky as hell. There is nothing you can do but watch.
I think driving in snow takes a few days or years off ones life. Especially if you’re involved in anything that makes your vehicle do 360’s and you are in it! One time I forgot I was driving a full size conversion van. Duh? I had to make a left turn onto 4 lanes, well it was one of those icy snowy mornings. I stopped, no cars, Ok I hit the gas and the van went forward a little and da okole of the van went forward a lot faster….it spun twice I think. Luckily there were no cars either way. My Son was with me and he yelled “I’M GOING TELL DADDY!” Scared da crap outta him too. Hey, we lived. OMG I almost had a heart attack, I think I was hyperventalating. *L*
As long I’ve lived mainland, I’ve had more then several of these close calls. Driving without snow is spooky enough nowdays. Add snow and ice and somethings bound to happen.
People see these commercials on TV about cars, truck or SUV’s that can drive in snow and no problem. Thats so bull. Do you see other vehicles around. NO! They do it under “ideal” conditions. Nobodys around. Some people think because they have 4-wheel drive they can drive like a bat out of hell in snow. Get a grip people….ICE does not care what kind of vehicle you are driving. Granted if you have the special snow tires and all that you do have better traction. But that also gives people a false sense of security and they go faster then they should. Speed and ice is an accident waiting to happen.
I do like snow. But for me its; been there done that. During and after a snowing there is a certain quietness and stillness. Sounds of the earth are muffled. Oh yeah, its cause everything & everybody stay frozen. *L*
