A good friend of mine forwarded a letter to me. It was from a former student of his, an athlete who after 20 years found his old coach via the internet and wrote a heart wrenching letter asking for guidance.

The letter was straight from deep within, reaching out to some one who had guided him before and today looks for more guidance. As a soilder he is hurting big time on the inside, torn by the reality of war.

As I read the letter I could not help but imagine this was a super MasterSgt leading his men by example. BUT on the inside….he wants a normal life. But what’s normal after the killing & the ravages of war? How do you go from “kill the enemy” to “love thy neighbor” when definitions are no longer black or white. There was so much pain between the lines of the letter I read. Pain I will never experience.

I know my friend will give good answers to the questions posed in the letter. Its what Coach’s do?
