You know how some people do their Christmas trees with a theme or one color? Like all red or all blue, only round ornaments only this or only that, yeah you know what I mean.
Anyways I was looking at MY tree….. I’m like I couldn’t do that because I love all da anykinda kine ornaments I’ve gotten through out the years. It didn’t dawn on me till I put up our tree this year that I have a lot of “Local” ornaments. I also have a lot of southwestern/native oriented ornaments. A lot of da native ornaments I have were bought at arts & crafts fairs. Alot of my “local” ornaments have been sent to me over the years, like the past 30 or so years.
This year my friend K sent me 2 more local ornaments. One a wahine holding a basket of pineapples and da ada one a kane holding a basket of fish. Dey so cute. She’s the one dat over the past 30 or so years have sent me ornaments from Hawaii, alot of’em from craft fairs too. One of my favorite is a a wahine in a holuku made from a old style clothes pin. Long time ago she also sent me 2 round balls covered with fancy Japanese paper. They are simple and pretty cause its black lacquered & gold. I also got a cermaic ipu, I get one poi pounder & needle point slippas.
One of my favorite native one looks like a lightening bolt or an arrow, its made of clay I think and painted turquoise and red. I bought it a a crafts fair long long time ago on the Rez. The following year I went to the same crafts fair thinking I’d find another one and I’ve never found another one like it. I have a small dream catcher ornament made in shiny Christmas green there use to be three little feathers hanging from it, its down to one.
I didn’t realize I had 3 Harley Davidson ornaments, one the company gave to us (I use work for them). I have 2 ornaments that are hand made by a coworker at HD. Her and her husband would make ornaments for everyone in our department. One is a horsey made with wine corks and yarn. Its really cute & crafty. That was a lot of wine they drank to make those ornaments. LOL Another one is a 3 dimensional snowflake. Her husband got a new jigsaw or some kine of tool and handmade all these wooden snowflakes. Its really nice.
I continue to look for strange ornaments. I don’t know why but we have 4 different penguin ornaments. One is made from bells and felt or some crafty materials I think my niece made. I have a big & little penguin together. This was from before Happy Feet or March of the Peguin days. LOL
Of course we have the standard round ornaments but those too are “specialized.” We have OU, of course and Mele Kalikimaka.
I can’t imagine doing a tree with all one color or theme. I like da chop suey, multi anykine culture, colors, shapes and sizes. When I look at my tree I’m always surprised by what I see or remember. Its not boring thats for sure. I’m attention deficit like that.
Some ornaments have more meaning then others. I likem’ all the same. All the ornaments have a story. But its been so long, I’ve forgotten a lot of’um. LOL

[…] On the homefront we’ve already taken down our holiday decorations and surprisingly, it only took about 3 hours. Gotta love an uber-organized hubby to keep things in ship shape order. He does it so next year we won’t have to open so many boxes to find the items we want to use. If it were up to me, we wouldn’t have to check the boxes because I’d want a new theme for next year so I’d buy new stuff. Fortunately for our budget and hubby’s sanity it’s not up to me. Ok Lika, now you know I’m a theme person. ~LOL~ […]
