About seven years or so ago I was walking around WalMart with my girlfriend as we walked by the pharmacy area she said “wait let me check my blood pressure.” So she did. Then I did.

When my numbers came up we both looked at each with big eyes. She looked at me and said “you need to go to the doctors like now.” I’m like I’m fine I’ll go tomorrow. And I did because…..the top number was 200something & the bottom was 140 or 160 or something to that high effect.

So I went to the doctors, by that time it was 180something/130something; sitll off the charts right. I went thru all these test plus EKG. I was told I should try and bring it down with diet & exercise. After a few months if it doesn’t come down significantly then I would need medication. For some reason, I did not want any pills, so diet & exercise.

I brought it down but it was sill considered a high low because it averaged like 140/100; in that range. One of my doctors said I just might be wired that way. LOL But ever since I saw the 200/160 or whatever I’ve been very conscious that I am a candidate for high blood pressure. Plus both my parents had/have it.

Well fast forward to yesterday when I went to WalMart and I walked past the high blood pressure machine….119/88….woohooo big difference from 200! My sister told me I need to get my own blood pressure cuff dilly and the WalMart machines are probably not calibrated correctly.

I know when I was in the hospital for my other issues and I was hooked up to the monitors; one of the first thing I noticed was my blood pressure was very normal. Oh, I think that had to do with the anesthesia. All calm & sedated!

I never thought much about having to know what my blood pressure is; you know outta sight outta mind. I’m glad that I’ve gotten my high blood pressure under control with diet & exercise. What diet? LOL Ok, part of it I think is internalized stress, I don’t rant outloud enough. Now I understand the importance of it & and I gotta go to the gym anyway for general up keep. LOL Everybody remember to take your low dosage/baby asprin once a day.

Now that I have my blood pressure #’s in check I have work on the weight #. *L*

From Webmd:

A healthy adult blood pressure is 140/90.

You answered: FALSE
The correct answer is: FALSE

Normal blood pressure in an adult is less than 120/80.

People with blood pressures over 120-139/80-89 have a condition called prehypertension, which indicates a high risk for developing hypertension (high blood pressure). Experts recommend these people take aggressive steps to lower this risk — stopping smoking, losing weight, increasing physical activity, and eating a low-fat diet.

Anyone with a blood pressure measured at 140/90 or higher on at least two occasions has high blood pressure and will generally require drug treatment to lower it.

I bin on meds for hbp for a long time now - very small dose works great foa me, so no side effects. I went on it after a doctor was checking me to participate in a study of something else. He looked at me after checking, saying nothing. When I asked what was up, he said, “oh, I’m just watching to see if you’re going to have a stroke right here.” Apparently, it was frighteningly high. No moa. 2.5mg lisinopril daily.

My madda says (wen she find out), “yeah - runs in the family,” all nonchalant like. Sheesh.
