Maybe its because I grew up in da country where the tallest building was da gym. LOL I don’t remember having to go upstairs to anything as a kid.
I knew there were high buildings and elevators and escalators. Ala Moana Center when it was brand new. *L* Ala Moana now is all fancy smancy. I walked around wondering “where’s Woolsworth?” Oh duh, talk about old school. I didn’t walk into any of the pricey places. Although I did see a pair of Channel high heels in the window that were really really nice. I figure it probably cost me 4 paychecks. Anden there’s a Cole Haan store that has the Nike heels and and High Rises…..hello….. oh yeah k k k
So I stayed at da Pagoda Hotel and was on the 6th floor. Not bad. Looking out at al the other higher high rises. High rises that were family dwellings.
Looking at these high rise buildings I think of worst case scenarios. Maybe its too much TV. But in this day an age you need to know your escape routes right. I thinking you either remain trapped in your own high rise dwelling OR you are kept out of it because you don’t want to walk up 25 flights of stairs and then some. See I’m thinking ‘what do you do when there’s no electricity?’
See if it would be me I’d be da type that carry survival gear. Flashlight, blanket, munchies, matches, might have to camp out in the underground parking. OH thats another thing….where do you park. Reserved space? Space enough for a Cooper. Geesh The lack of parking and high rise buildings freak me out in the city. I’m obviously not a metropolitan kind of person.
This picture was taken from the Hilton Hawaiian Village lawn by the lagoon. There was the NIEA’s President reception there. Anyway during the course of the evening the moon rose over this building. Whatever building it is you can see from that area. It was cool to see it move. You know the ocean breeze rustling thru the cococnut trees, moon and the stars and all that. Hmmm just another evening in paradise. How nice. Some people have that every night.

High rises make me feel claustraphobic. Like the walls are moving in. Shouldn’t you be able to see mauka. You know what I mean? Oh neva mind mauka stay all covered with homes and high rises too. People wonder why there are natural disasters? You think maybe its cause you put buildings where buildings shouldn’t be?
We sat in the Convention Center parking lot, in the corner where its not covered and workers go eat or have smoke break. We had to wait for the parking TRAFFIC to subside. Who got paid a gazillion million dollars to build a parking structure that holds hundreds maybe a thousand cars and that has ONE lane as an exit? A one lane spiraling exit at that.
So we sat waiting sitting on the wall enjoying the warm weather and the breeze. This is a picture of a building across the street about a block or so down from the Convention Center. Its an aesthetically pleasing looking building. Especially when the sun is going down. I imagine when the sun comes up too. Part of the building looks residential or maybe all of it is. I wonder how much their mortgage is? Its kinda like if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it. So moot point really.

I love the look of this building. I wonder what the inside looks like. I wonder if the people who live like in the penthouse have like a parachute or something to repel down.
I don’t think it would hurt to learn to jump off a building if you live in building like that. What do you call those stationary jumpers or whatever. They climb up high places and jump. Its against the law, but I imagine if its the only way down, its the only way down. You should learn how to jump off a building safely, with a parachute of course.

You’re right. That’s a residential condo. I have no idea what they cost, but I imagine most of the units are in the more than a million dollah range. And they building another right across the street, where Wave Waikiki used to be.
Those parachute guys are called base jumpers. And ya know, you hit it right on the head. I guess if I lived on the upper floors, I’d have a few parachutes packed, just in case. “In case of emergency, break glass, don chute, jump.”
