There is something special about a handcrafted item especially when it is made specifically for a particular person or purpose or both. I think it has to do with the intensions, thoughts, vibes, mana’o; all of those things mentioned anden some that is part of the crafted piece and it wraps you with that energy. Postive energy yeah.
I know that when I work on a project I try to do it with good vibes. If something is going nuts, like the thread keeps getting knotted or I keep dropping stuff or anything that irritates me; I usually stop and go do something else. Because I don’t want put that negative, humbug energy into whatever I’m making. I think thats true with anything you do and to do other wise produces kinda junk stuff; well at least not as good.
Once upon a time I took a Navajo rug weaving class. Grandma, da teacha didn’t speak English and the other girls translated. (yeah I know I still need to write dat story) But Grandma would explain this and that and you should do this or that. So I pointed out something at the end of one the rugs and told da girls to ask how come its la dis. The explanation was simple. Nothing is perfect and sometimes she puts a mistake in it intentionally. Some people may call it a signature, but only that person or people who knows that person work would know it. I always thought that was neat.
That being the case, all my stuff is unintentionally signed and intentionally imperfect. I know my stuff is crooked. LOL
Ok so fast forward backward hehehehe to da Friday after Thanksgiving. That was the rehearsal & rehearsal dinner of my #2’s wedding. There was about 30 people I think who attended. It was at a nice place in Oklahoma City. It was hosted by my daughtas about to be and now is inlaws.
It was an awesome event. Lots of good vibes and presents! Each place setting had an individual hand towel, as a gift favor to all those who attended. There was all different designs. This was mines. Gotta love it.

Which bear does this look like? Yogi bear, Booboo bear or Smokey bear? Or maybe Sugarbear or was his name Honeybear? You know that old ceeral commercial, well neva mind I’m dating myself. Again. Do you know there are generation(s) that don’t know Yogi & Booboo; I think that sad.
The bride and groom had special ones. Kind of cause we’re a honu kind of ohana, our aumakua so to speak from both sides yeah OK & HI. So they got the honu ones. New SIL so nice he gave his one to my MIL aka Grandma. Nice yeah.

Ok da piece de’resistance. Or re-zis-tunce, wotever.
This piece was carried into the restaurant wrapped in a pendelton blanket because it was in the back of a pickup. They brought it in and unwrapped it. I thought oh wow what a beautiful piece, a real treasure of wedding present for the kids. It was sitting there all night.
The kids gave out presents to the brides maid, groom dudes & parents. Everybody who wanted to speak said what needed to be said. Tears here and there. Very touching tributes. Then the new Inlaws gave out presents too.
Shoots I forgot to take pictures of the set of pillows they gave my MIL, sister & daughter. They were pretty pretty ribbonwork design. So then they start talking about the family’s coming together and joining as one etc. At #2’s graduation party we did a giveaway, and we gave our 2B inlaws a quilt that I made up a story about on da spot. nah nah nah Well ok yeah kinda did but it was true so it wasn’t “dat made up.” It just worked out real well. LOL
The graduation party was also the official announcement of the engagement and wedding of the kids. The quilt had both designs of flowers and fish patten, I some how I incorporated both hence the merging of our familes.
Ok so, my SIL’s Dad or my daughta FIL is a woodworker. He makes cedar boxes. Cedar boxes are used to keep your valuables; like your prayer paraphernalia or feathers or anything sacred & precious yeah.
So FIL was talking about the quilt and how they really appreciated the significance of it all. And I’m all teary eyed, aaawwhhhh. It was so sweet. Anden he says: This design came to me in a dream and I just finished it this afternoon.

Awesome yeah. And lolo me, my jaw dropped in shock cause I thought it was for the kids and I said what I was thinking (duh?) I said: “Can I borrow your truck?”
This is a cedar chest that is amajor handcrafted heirloom piece. It is the length of two pendelton blankets, he made it that way. He also said the design came to him in a dream. Wow how much mana is that yeah. It is a gorgeous piece of work. This is only the 3rd chest that he’s made. The 1st one went to his wife and the second he donated for fundraiser. The first thing I asked him (after the truck question) was is it signed? He said no. I told him to sign and date it.
Anyway its still in Oklahoma City cause it couldn’t fit in the Audi. Can I borrow somebody’s truck? LOL We have to make a special trip to OKC, it’ll fit in the back of my Pathfinda.
