IMHO there will always be a double standard. May not be as bad as my parents dem days wheneva I was growing up but none da less not ever all dat equal either. As long as there are botos and belots there will be different standards. OH did I say da B-word. I didn’t call anybody a BeeYacht, so I’m good right?
Part of the double standard thing is mentality. Ok alot of IT IS mentality. Females are moms. Males are dads. That story about man gives birth, puh-lese; “man” had a uterus. Excuse me men do not have uterus-ses! So there. How you wanna confuse you’re kid like that? I’m your Dad and I gave birth to you. Yes I am your Dad&Mom rolled into one, I Ffked myself. No no no, I wanted to be a man so I changed da outside but the inside was still wahine so az why ha’come, could still yet puinsai come hapai la dat. How you going tell da baby you going come stay go, wen you go come go went awreddy. LOL
Ok now I fo’get why I wen start dis DoubleStandard bs. Oh yeah yeah yeah. Da Republican Convention, Vice President blah blah blah. As all I heard about on TV - CNN. Gustav and VP candidate daughta hapai. If SHE was a HE dey wouldn’t scrutanize HIM la da but dey do HER? Why? Cause she da Mahdah! Am I lying.
What life has taught me is dat, IF something wrong wit da kid, wit da ohana; da Mahdah da one! Regardless if her fault or not; SHE is da fall guy. You da MOM, its your fault da kid is messed up. Why do you think Mom’s pray so much. They know, IF something wrong, ITS there fault. It’s part of the job description, it comes wit da territory. Freud or Jung said right? LOL
Yes Mom’s can have an executive career BUT. Always a BUT. BUT WOT? BUT you pay da price. Eda way. Career or Ohana? Both. OK fine. So den crisis situation, career or ohana? Wait, is the crisis wit da ohana or da career? Both. Which you going choose… baby stay sick sick dey like dey mahdah or catastrophic Hurricane Katrina pot (shuddup, ok PART) II. Knock on wood, making da sign of da cross. You get my drift. You know wot I mean……..
It’s hard being a Mom and even harder being a Mom with a career, even way way harder to the 100th degree being a Mom who is 2nd in command of a country, who could be the Commander In Chief IF Godforbid something happens to da Main Man.
Maybe its just me. See cause one of my biggest fears was my Babies having babies. My Parents put da fear of da Lord God Almighty and da belt into me; with continuously lecturing me of about not getting hapai. HOWEVA DEY failed to TELL ME just how dahell it is one gets pregnant. For the longest time I thought holding hands equals making babies. Thank you Ewa school and Waipahu Intermediate for s-e-x education. As a parent I swore I would tell my kids about s-e-x. And gunnfunnit I did! It was some what of a standup routine, with me & my 2 daughtas rolling on da floor but hey whateva works.
I find it hard to believe and yet I also understand, how parents don’t talk to their kids about babies having babies. And I’m sure even if they do frkng hudhead brattyass children will do whatdeydo. GO head spread yo’legs sommoe! You know what I mean. ME, I use to rant & rave everytime I hear about a hapai teenagah yeah. I would be going off, YOU KNOW you kids got no business bringing ada people into dis world when you no can even afford to buy your own shoes you going buy shoes and pampers fo’somebody else!
BUT hey its hard being a MOM, even more so with the scrutiny of the press and the country. Its all about choices ain’t it. Yeah they wouldn’t criticize & put a man thru the wringer la dat. A lot of times No Double Standard is rhetoric. Its apples and oranges, botos & belots I tell you.

Your Issue Profile: 60% Obama, 40% McCain
|

Truth be told, you’re not really satisfied with either of the candidates.
You could vote for either of them. You are the typical coveted swing voter.
You may want to narrow yourself down to a particular set of issues in order to pick your president.
Or start looking at third party candidates. One of them might suit you better.

Compliments of the Dept of Labor. And I thought it was related to giving birth. What would I do without Google?
The History of Labor Day
Labor Day: How it Came About; What it Means
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
Founder of Labor Day
More than 100 years after the first Labor Day observance, there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers.
Some records show that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor, was first in suggesting a day to honor those “who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold.”
But Peter McGuire’s place in Labor Day history has not gone unchallenged. Many believe that Matthew Maguire, a machinist, not Peter McGuire, founded the holiday. Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire, later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson, N.J., proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic.
The First Labor Day
The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.
In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a “workingmen’s holiday” on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.

Thursday night we had a big monsoon storm. Heavy duty rain for hours. We sat in the garage; watched the lighting and listened to the thunder. God took our picture a thousand times. *L* Lighting streaking across the sky is really pretty yeah.
It was about 9:30pm and my son says Mom check this out. So were watching the storm from the safety of our garage. Anden the light went out in the garage. Get the flashlight! Then we started cracking up cause it was just the automatic light attached to the garage opener that turned off automatically. We sat in the dark and let our pictures get taken. LOL DH says listen! All I could hear was a rumbling sound. Kind of like a train coming down the track but in a distance. It was just a constant rumble. DH says when people talk about a tornado sounding like a freight train passing by that’s the sound they are talking about. He said he hadn’t heard that sound in ages. It’s a common sound in Oklahoma or any tornado ally state.
The storm went on for hours. Rain. Lighting. Thunder. More rain. Less lightning. Less thunder. Still raining. That’s a monsoon in the valley.
So this morning we go to work and you know we really do carpool, HOV lane aka diamond lane. We hear on the radio about all these closings. Water. No electricity, no traffic lights. It didn’t mention the area where we work up on Central Ave. We decide to stop at Safeway/Starbucks. But oops its closed. Must be no electricity. So we go on to work ooops big ass tree across the road. Go down another road, oops more debris. We finally get to DH’s building and oops everybody is outside. It’s about 7:20am. So I drop him off. I go to my building, 1 block up.
OOPs the new light rail stop canopy thingee is in the intersection that I need to turn left at. There are work crews and TV camera crews there. I gotta go up another block then come back down. Finally I get to work and in our courtyard you see trash every where. Well actually it was insulation and someones roof in many many pieces scattered all over. No electricity. No phones. Which means, NO WORK. Its Friday, the long weekend just got longer. wooohooo

[No I didn’t take that picture. Its from da bucket. LOL]

My thought is I don’t care if you Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian, Unitarin or Sagitarian, just vote. You know what I mean. I don’t care if you left, right or kapakahi, shut up and vote. OK fine talk talk talk, grumble grumble grumble. Go vote.
I believe what I believe and you believe what you belive. Its all good. Nobody hurting or harming each ada, nobody being mean and disrespecting one another, cool just vote. I not going change your mind and I wouldn’t want to. As I wouldn’t want some one to do me like that either.
Some people are very passionate about their political stance. Passion is good. Juss no frkng try shovem down my throat, keep’um in your own troat! *L* You know what I mean. Personally I don’t think I need to be convinced of who to vote for. I make up my mind, vote and pau.
Alot of commercials tell why da ada person junk. It maybe true and it might not. Whats junk for you is not necessarily junk fo’me and vice versa. I think there should more commercials and education that focus on the importance of voting, rather then red or blue or R or D or rich or poor or whateva.
Most people make up their own mind and are not influenced by TV commercials. My thought is just cause you say you are one party or another doesn’t mean that you are going to vote for the nominated person. The only person who knows that is you. You can say whoever it is you want to say you voted for. You are the only person who knows for sure who you voted for, yeah.
Some people like to brag. See I was right. You was wrong. See if you had done this that or the other; life would be different. Puh-leese. Save it for somebody who has nothing better to do then listen to your words of wisdom aka gloating. I have a life that does not include using up my time to listen to how right somebody else is about an election.
I don’t see my life changing drastically either way. How many Presidents have I been thru and I’m still me because of the choices I made. Well aren’t we all. LOL
I’m not a politically minded person. I’m wishywashy by nature. I’m even bribe-able. If MY one vote would make the difference in an election, would I do what is right. Will I vote for the person who I believe will truely make a difference? Will I vote for the person of my selected party? Would I vote for whichever candidate I have a connection to, cause you know his stepbrudahs mahdahs fahdahs cousin NT is my classmate? OR would I go to the highest bidder? Hmmmm decisions decisions. I am voting, thats a given. Ok so who den?
Which brings me to da question, how much is a vote worth - money wise? I think everyone has a price. Some may say there is no dollar amount that could buy their vote. I think that could be the correct answer. But being the wishywashy deeply in debt shoppaholic that wants to travel but can’t afford to person that I am, a million sounds like a good round number. *L*

I’m not a big politico person other then I vote. My participation in politics is basically voter and spectator. I never really paid attention to all the hoopla going on at the convention and all that.
I have the TV on whatever station it is that has the Convention coverage. I have it on as background noise. Checking it now and then, sit down get up, do something else, attention deficit. I’m thinking if I watch it long enough the cameras will find people that I know are there. Then I can say “hey I saw you on TV.” No such luck yet because I’ve not watched it that long. Besides usually they have all the news & political analyst analyzing. There’s always two sides right, one person to praise it to death and the other to dissect it to pieces. Well can’t have the good with out the bad or vise versa.
I listened to pieces of Michelle’s Obama speech. I liked it. I don’t care if the spousal speech is this, that or the other. But of course the TV people have to tell you all this, that or the other because that’s their job. Whatever. She did excellent. Nice dress. If she becomes First Lady, she be the first First Lady with a booty. Baby got back. Lotta junk inda trunk. Thats a good thing. Beats talking about a flat ass and pantsuits. Ooohh did I say that. LOL
Tomorrow night Hillary speaks. What color pantsuit do you think she’ll wear? What I noticed during the campaign is that I never saw her in the same pantsuit twice. What does have to do with anything I don’t know, but I was thinking she must have 365 pantsuits, one for each day of the year.
I must be growing up if I can listen/watch bits & pieces of the Convention. I’m still hoping to see people I know on TV.

I must be in a creative mood. Or I was this past weekend anyways. I’ve done this before, like 27 years ago for my baby boy. So I thought I’ll make one for our first ever mo’opuna aka Grandkid. I made the ribbon shirt like in 15 minutes. I was taking pictures of it cause its so dang tiny, its a size 0-3months. So I’m taking pictures, taking pictures AND BRAINFART! I should make an aloha print one too. Duh? Baby has ribbon shirt, baby needs aloha shirt for Friday. Aloha Friday. So this is what happens when I have these creativesmative moments. *L*
The Ribbon Shirt - Back view:

It was while I was taking this picture that I thought of the Aloha Shirt. Front view of the Ribbon Shirt:

The teeny tiny newborn size Aloha Shirt. This matches da diapers yeah. The front view:

And this is the back of it:

So I was looking at my daughta’s gift register for baby stuff right. I notice on da list get Burpie Cloths. WOT? Cloth for burp. Hello. Burp cloths -special cloth fo’burp on. Only ting doe baby usually spit up or trow up, so ha’come dey no callem’ one trowup cloth or spittup cloth. Personally, I use to call it one DAIPA, you know a diaper.
Way back inda day there were no “burp cloths” there were diapers. Right. Or was it just me. Diapers are/is the all purpose necessary item with bringing up baby. Or I think so. Even in this day and age were majority of peoples use disposable, you still need a dozen or two diapers yeah. Well I think so. Call me old school, a diaper comes in handy for whatever you want to use it for.
Even doe new moms nowadays prolly no use cloth diapas cause dey all use disposables; still da diapa comes in handy. Like Burpie cloth, yeah. Before they invented the Burp Cloth there was da diapa. Somebody got akamai, renamed and labeled da multiuseful diapa wit “Burp Cloth” and dey you go. Smut, hah? Its called marketing.
Burp cloth smurf cloth. Its a diaper. Somebody reinvented da name, changed da mateiral. So I figure I can reinvent da diapa too. Try look. Wat dis? Diapa or Burp Cloth? Shaka diapa. I know look Kahuku-ish but its really OU - Go Sooners! LOL

This is Mr. Floppy modelling da shaka diapa…….

Da okole view - cute hah? LOL

Several years ago, I found this piece of material on Ebay. Its an underwater scene. Its about 36 X 46 inches. After I bought it, I gave it to my MIL for her to quilt it. I don’t know how to quilt and whenever I need something quilted she usually does it. It may take a few years or not; but I don’t usually put a time limit on it and if I do, its usually a year or two out. Anyways I had forgotten that I had given her this material and a year or two later she gave it back to me. I was very impressed. Well I’m always impressed when someone knows how to quilt.
About the that time I got the quilt back from my MIL; I started a “first Grandbaby box.” It just had a thing or two that I liked. My thought was at the time: What if I never get to see any grandkids? So I wanted my kids to know if they had kids & I wasn’t here; at least they know I thought of the kid. Morbid to some, but hey ya’neva know. This was several years ago, before 2003 for sure.
Fast forward to NOW and first mo’opuna - aka Grandbaby - ETA is October 19th give or take some. Next month there’s going to be a baby shower. So I’m getting stuff together. I opened up the ‘first Grandbaby box’ to see what all I had accumulated. Not much really. This quilt was in it so I took a picture.

I love the undersea scene. It reminds me of snorkling. I’m a honu kinda person. My kids are too.
For some reason I took a picture of the back of the quilt. I rarely do that. But I wanted to show some of the quilting detail. In doing so I notice my MIL had quilted a star where there was no star; and that star is next to a fish. I took this as a sign. Call me lolo but this quilt will not go to my first mo’opuna. Simply because it needs to go to my #2’s first baby. Look at the quilt. What’s on it? Yellowfishes. I rest my case. For that to make sense you have to know my ohana’s history.
Did you find Nemo?
