May 9 – 1952 Chevy Deluxe

Thursday, May 9th, 2013

This awesome Chevy was following us down Sunshine Valley Road; I pulled over so Nolemana could snap a photo of it. I’m pretty sure it’s a Chevy Deluxe 1952. It was really loud, and wish I’d felt good enough to follow him for awhile and get more photos. My brother Kaniela and I love love love old cars like this. Mahalo, Papa-san, for giving us that gift!

May 6 – Inside or outside

Monday, May 6th, 2013

I went over to take some haupia to my daughter, Leilani, who’d just had her tonsils out. She can’t have anything dairy right now, and she loves haupia, and I was delighted to make it for her.

We sat out in the back yard, and I couldn’t resist taking this photo of one of their Springer Spaniels trying to decide if he wanted to come out or not through the doggie door. Ho da kewt, yeah?

May 1 – Not exactly what I’d planned for today.

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

Here’s my photo of the day. The Gathering was pau and I got into my car. I had a lot of errands to run. Turned the key. Car started. Engine turned off. Hmmm… Strange. Turned the key again. Car started. Engine turned off. Acting like it thought I was kakaroaching my own car. Sheesh.

I took the key out of the ignition. Pressed the “open door” button which I usually do if this happens. Put the key back in. This time the car wouldn’t start at all.

Called AAA. The guy came right out… battery fine. Alternator fine. Tried a few key things. Nothing. He called the tow truck. I called Nolemana and asked him to come get me. Tow truck guy has to load my kawila onto the flatbed up a steep hill, after backing down my car from my friends’ very steep driveway.

Off they went. Off we went. We all met at Cleveland Auto Repair in Gresham. I told Arlen what was happening and he right away said he thought it was the anti-theft system.

Nolemana and I came home after doing a couple of my errands.

Kawila stayed at Cleveland Auto. Hopefully I will get her back tomorrow.

Here’s my kawila, almost ready to head off to the shop. Me, grateful for AAA.

23 April – Flowers at the gym

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

The flowering trees at the entrance to the gym I go to are in full bloom right now. When I’m there, their scent follows me for quite awhile as I walk by them coming and going, and if there’s a breeze, I get showered by the falling petals. It’s wonderful!

April 18 – Cuteness and a scare

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Today was an interesting day, to say the least. And I didn’t get a photo of the most scary experience, either.

This afternoon Nolemana called me in a panic; he was down at the barn and saw that Ricky, the horse we’re boarding, was lying on his side, back legs up and over the watering trough. He thought Ricky had had a stroke.

I got in my car and rushed down there and saw that the problem was that Ricky had gotten himself cast (by rolling and scratching his back too close to the trough) and that the trough needed to be moved so that he could get his legs under him.

Nolemana got a big bucket and scooped enough water out to move the trough, then pulled it away from Ricky, who was able to get his legs and feet in the right position to get himself up.

Whereupon he shook himself, trotted out of the corral, and had a nice long pee, then bent his head to graze on the nice green grass.

Silly boy.

At the other end of the scale was total cuteness. I’d taken my laundry hamper da kine to the laundry room and when it was empty, Kalakoa decided to jump into it. Ho da kewt!!

March 22

Just for you, AFK… you and Pink Martini. I loved the video and song!

We had more hail, sunshine, and rain today. I’d just gotten home when I saw more hail coming towards us; the sky was dark and I could see the line of hail moving across Sunshine Valley. I grabbed my camera wikiwiki and took a couple of photos. Ho da cold outside! Just as I got back into the house, the hail started coming down fast and furious. Good timing, yeah?

See the line of the hail over to the right and straight ahead? I love love love watching weather coming toward me!

And here it is, almost on top of us! So kewl!

March 18

A few of my friends and I were at a teriyaki place for lunch; we were sitting right next to the window where the sun was streaming in, highlighting photos of some of the items on the menu.

A yellowjacket flew onto the window and said to himself, “Ho da ‘onolicious!” Too funny dat.

March 9

This was a good day to be knitting with friends as it’s the anniversary of my dad’s suicide. It’s always a hard day for me, so I took a knitting project that required a fair amount of concentration to keep my mind occupied.

I’m knitting an infinity cowl with my own handspun; I love the way the colors are turning out, and it really helped to see the colors moving through my fingers onto the cowl. Somehow, creating something pretty from fiber that I’d spun helped me to remember the good memories I have of my dad. I miss him so much.

Yes, there really is a town called Boring. It’s right next to where I live. But contrary to popular belief, it’s not because we’re boring. It was named for an early pioneer family who came over on the Oregon Trail, and the name has to do with mining. You know, like boring into the deepest caverns of the earth. (more…)

My blog server was down last night so I couldn’t upload yesterday’s photo. But here it is….

Today I took Hinahina to the vet for a checkup. When we took her several months ago she was having some renal failure problems and I was extremely concerned. But today was a good checkup! Hinahina has gained two pounds on her kidney/canned diet, and her blood test showed improvement too!

I was so happy!

Hinahina, however, was not. Stink eye to da max!

February 28

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

I was running all over the place today and didn’t have any time to take a photo, but as I came home from my wanderings today I saw this bush at the bottom of our pasture. It’s covered with moss (typical for an Oregon winter), and seemed photo-worthy. One thing about doing the Project 365 is that it’s helping me to pay more attention to things around me, and for that, I’m very grateful.

Today I got an email from our vet reminding me that it’s Keola’s birthday month, so I thought it only fitting that he should be the photo of the day. He is two years old this month. It’s hard to believe I got him at the shelter a year and a half ago already! I fell in love with his mustached face, chubby cheeks, and big eyes. Happy birthday, my boy!

Montana Road Trip 2010 Part Eight

Friday, February 8th, 2013

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about this wanderlust that is so much a part of me. I know I got it from my dad, this yearning for new roads, new places, new sights. When I was planning this road trip, I could’ve stuck to the shortest route, the fastest route, the most direct route, to Orofino. But instead, longing for something off the beaten path, Nolemana and I discovered Juliaetta, Kendrick, the drive through the lovely countryside, and to top it all off, an amazing sunset. (more…)

365 Days – January 3-21

Monday, January 21st, 2013

I started a new creative endeavor this months, thanks to some Ravelry peeps, who encouraged me to start. The idea is to take a photo for every single day of the year. It doesn’t have to be anything artistic or fancy or anything, though it can be. The big trick for me seems to be remembering to do it, but so far I haven’t missed a single day (though I cut it close a couple of times!). I started on January 3rd, and I think what I’d like to do here is to post a photo for each day. However, since I only now thought of the idea, I gotta play catchup. So here goes; this should be an interesting chronicle of my year. (more…)

Monday, January 14th, 2013

Whew! Iʻm back! Letʻs continue our adventure on our way to Montana, okay? Months ago, at least here on the blog, we had just left the small town of Kendrick, Idaho. We turned East onto County Road P1, which is also known as Southwick Road and also known as Wauncher Gulch Road. Confusing, yeah? (more…)

Montana Road Trip 2010, Part Two

Friday, September 7th, 2012

We didn’t stop in McNary but drove on through, because we had miles and miles to go before we got to our motel in Orofino. Since I am always the trip planner, I’d gone online and found what looked like a great motel there and had made reservations. And since we’d gotten such a late start, ‘way later than we’d planned, we needed to keep going. (more…)
