This is the conference that Linda and I went to. My head is still reeling from all that we learned. C. Baxter Kruger was also there, along with several other speakers. Paul Young is the author of “The Shack”, and I feel as though I’ve walked through C.S. Lewis’ tiny wardrobe into the amazing world beyond it.
My friend Linda and I drove up to Richland today for a conference. As we drove up the Columbia River Gorge, I saw this sign on the back of a semi trailer… Linda and I wondered if it was brewed coffee or beans or what inside the trailer.
Personally, I thought it’d be helpful if there were spigots on the side so that we could fill up our coffee cups as we drove by!
And a gratuitous photo of da day: The lovely Cable Bridge between Kennewick and Pasco, which we drove over. It is an unbelievably lovely bridge!
Today Nolemana, Suzette, and I drove up to Hood River to the Columbia Gorge Fiber Festival. We didn’t get to go last year, so Suzette and I were really excited about going. Nolemana said he’d like to go, but his level of excitement was much less than ours. He’s not a knitter or a handspinner, but he said he’d enjoy our company and see what the CGFF was all about.
We had a great day. I got to see friends I don’t get to see except at fiber festivals, and Suzette and I had a wonderful time enabling each other. The floor was carpeted, and water was provided by the Best Western Motel where the event was held. It made for a pleasant shopping experience indeed.
The drive up the Gorge was absolutely breathtaking and the three of us ate lunch with a view of the Columbia River.
Nolemana and I went up to Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge again today. The weather was perfect. As always, we never know what we’re going to see, and this day was no exception. As we were driving around, we saw several cars stopped alongside the creek looking at something. We pulled in behind one of them, and the man inside told us what we were looking at. We’d never even seen one before… this was a real treat!
Anybody wanna guess what it is? I’ll post the answer in a couple of days.
Today Nolemana and I drove up to Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge in Washington. We always look forward to going; it’s quiet and peaceful, and the wildlife is absolutely amazing. We actually end up driving around the refuge twice, because it’s never the same, even within thirty minutes. It was really hard to choose just one photo for the day, but I decided on this one: a Great Blue Heron.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about this wanderlust that is so much a part of me. I know I got it from my dad, this yearning for new roads, new places, new sights. When I was planning this road trip, I could’ve stuck to the shortest route, the fastest route, the most direct route, to Orofino. But instead, longing for something off the beaten path, Nolemana and I discovered Juliaetta, Kendrick, the drive through the lovely countryside, and to top it all off, an amazing sunset. (more…)
I forgot to add a video I took from Chief Temuut’su Bridge last time, so here it is. This is really such a beautiful and peaceful place, so just relax for a bit.
I stay back! Had a great time at da kahakai with my friends, and now it’s time to get back to our Montana road trip. I have a few more photos from Alpowa Summit to start with. (more…)
Eh. I wen forget to add a couple of videos last time. So Iʻm gonna add them here, to give you a feeling for the beautiful countryside we were driving through. (more…)
Kʻden. Leaving ʻono grindz and Walla Walla behind, we headed out into the lovely Palouse country for the second time in six months. We really had to push it in order to see everything we could before dark fell.
We didn’t stop in McNary but drove on through, because we had miles and miles to go before we got to our motel in Orofino. Since I am always the trip planner, I’d gone online and found what looked like a great motel there and had made reservations. And since we’d gotten such a late start, ‘way later than we’d planned, we needed to keep going. (more…)
Eh. U folks stay ready foa anodda road trip advencha? I am! U like go holoholo kaʻa wit us? K’den. We go. Imua!
After the sadness of my last posts, I thought it might be a good idea to have a road trip series to help ease the grief. I love seeing all the photos we took; it’s like taking the trip all over again. (more…)
As the years went by, Nolemana and I found that Kukui was the perfect doggie for us. Well, except for her garbage mouth, that is. Every single minute it seemed that she was snorfling (yes, that is a real word because I made it up!) all the time, trying to find the least little crumb that she could eat. Sometimes it drove us crazy, the way she would snorfle, as if she weren’t getting fed enough. But if she had any faults, that was the only one, and it paled in the light of all her other good qualities. (more…)
Back at the motel, Nolemana and I had a bite to eat… and we talked about Cuddles, but really, our minds were already made up. We didn’t need to make another trip out to Gramma’s to see if we wanted to bring the doggie home with us. We knew we’d only be going back to get her and bring her home with us. (more…)
In November, 2003, Nolemana and I made an eight-hour drive to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. It was a trip which had been in the works for a couple of months, with ukubillion emails flying back and forth between me and the person we were going to see. In a way, it was a bittersweet trip, yet not without hope and anticipation. (more…)
You know, sometimes I get so upset with myself for not keeping this blog updated! I have so many photos to share, and then I get distracted or have to spend more time working, and it seems to vanish into the ether somewhere. I never finished the kitty story, never finished my drive to Amity! I keep saying I’ll do better and then I don’t. I should just schedule a weekly time to do it.
So here I am, a month and a half later, trying to finish the Amity drive, Because really, I loved doing it and it was so much fun crossing and re-crossing the river. (more…)
Ho, da long time, yeah? I bet nobody stay ova hea anymoa! But in case u stay, hea goes.
My myrtlewood spinning wheel flyer needed some repair, so after contacting the best woodworker around who restores spinning wheels and builds parts for them, I headed down to Amity, Oregon, one sunny morning. The drive down I-5 to the Brooks exit was pretty uneventful, so I took no photos. Aside from the fact that I don’t take photos while I’m driving. (more…)
Oh Mokihana, you have been such a bad blogger lately! Yeah, I know. U going gimme slippah?
I am very tempted to. Try wait! I going post right now!
Okay, but youʻd better have it done this afternoon! Mokihana hustles to make good on her word.(more…)
This small kine road trip was down to the Wooden Shoe Bulb Farm in Woodburn, Oregon. It was a rainy day, but we didn’t care. We just wanted to see some color in the middle of the gray Oregon winter and spring.
So us guys and Kukui set off along the back roads. Why take the highways when the back roads bring so much adventure and surprises? (more…)
Ho. No can believe it. It’s been a whole month anden! So sorry. We got really busy at work which was a really good thing. But here’s the last installment of our trip to Ryderwood. Sorry foa da delay and mahalo for being patient! (more…)
