Starring... Hawaii!

Last night I, along with millions, watched ER. While it was a fine episode that evoked many tears, I particularly enjoyed the fact that it was filmed in Hawaii. I often like watching shows that feature Hawaii in either its scenery or its storyline. I miss the islands and anytime I have the chance to see a television show or a movie that has scenery from Hawaii, I do.

Hawaii, for many years, has had a prominent role in movies and television shows. The ones I identify with are Hawaii 5-0, Magnum PI, Jurrasic Park, Indiana Jones, etc. I am sure there are many more that have featured the islands over the years. Which ones do you remember?

Joy, we just had a thread devoted to Hawaii on television and movies - but we could definitely open up another discussion on that, sure!

(We're also trying to - it does look like North Shore, from what I can tell. The script was dead-on, though, when Corday looks at the house and says, "It must've cost you a fortune.")

Thanks for pointing that out to me. :) Obviously, I haven't keep up with all the postings! I guess watching last night's episode of ER just got to me!

No problem - I think last night's ER really got to all of us, as well! Nicely done, and major points to John Wells for keeping the location in context.

The above post should've read, "We're also trying to figure out where Greene's vacation rental is on O`ahu - it definitely looks like North Shore, from what I can tell." (Haken thinks it's Kahuku, I think it's Wahiawa; definitely looks like it does cost a fortune, and from what I can tell from the reports I don't think they went to shoot this anywhere on the Neighbor Islands.)

Oh, God...what a tearjerker! We've also been trying to figure out where the beach house is. Yeah, we all know it's North Shore. I keep thinking Kahuku as well. May this calls for a 'round the island trip by this townie! :)

Speaking of ER and Mr. Edwards, I posted this among other items on my blog the other day.

All you ER fans may want to bid on this: Anthony Edwards is putting his personal trailer up on E-Bay to benefit the Cure Autism Now Foundation.

There was a "news" special on MTV about the increasing use of marijuana called "Breaking It Down With Serena: Marijuana" tonight. There was a segment that featured the on-going game played by the growers and the law right here on the Big Island. They didn't show any faces but we could still tell who they were by the sound of their voice.. the way they walked.. their nose.. hey.. I should've posted this in here instead!

BTW, Stella, what did you say? I don't even speak Polish .. ;p

Tom: The question I posed in that thread - "Bisaya ka man gid?" - is Visayan for, well, "Eh, you Visayan?"

For the record, I'm actually not (I'm probably the only Tagalog on board - heh heh) - but my folks do have a lot of Visayan friends and they've traveled around that area before (I've only gone as far as Cebu and Boracay) which is why I know that phrase.

Here's another thing for this thread, which I mentioned earlier: Nickelodeon's Rocket Power - though it's actually set in California - features a character named Kimo who's voiced by Andy Bumatai, who also says that the animators even drew the character to look like him.

does anyone know the version of the "somewhere over the rainbow" song played on mark green's dying episode filed in hawaii?

No idea where the vacation home is, Kristi, but Beth? The "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is probably the hottest island song in the U.S. right now, and has been discussed here quite a bit. It's by Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo`ole, and can be found on his "Facing Future" album (among others).
