Jake Gets Exposed

Mark from boingboing.net has posted a link to a small movie clip on KHET's website which features Jake Shimabukuro doing what he does best.

This means a bit more exposure for the ukulele man, but no one on the discussion board knows his name. Shall we rectify that?

Yes, we should.

In a just world, Jake wouldn't just be a "featured artist" on a movie soundtrack (with all respect due to Iz and everyone else who has been featured on a soundtrack) - he'd be writing and performing the entire score.

Judging by the reaction of the boingboingers, I think ukulele music will never rise above its cheesy reputation. A damn shame. If Jake can't convince 'em, what can?

Three words: Asylum Street Spankers. (Heheheh.)

Christina Marrs plays a mean uke, and it also helps that alot of Spankers songs are, ahem, "ribald".

I met Jake Shimabukuro in at a solo performance/workshop recently. His musicianship left me stunned. He is quickly becoming a masterful player, and I'm convinced he will do much to elevate the status of the ukulele across a variety of musical circles. He has the potential to do for the Ukulele what David Grisman has already done for the mandolin.... don't miss his show if you have to chance to see him live
