Memories of Klum gym

Reading how well the Wahine are doing makes me reminisce about Klum gym. I only went once. But what an adrenaline rush it was. It was back in the Tita Ahuna, Teee Williams days.

Swallowed in a sea of fans, we made our way in. How such a small gym could fit so many people? Sitting, squished into a space half the size of my okole. Screaming so loud I lost my voice. And happy. Very happy.

It was as if nothing else existed. Just the battle on the court. And the inevitable standing for Aloha Ball. 1987 was a good year for Wahine Volleyball and for me.

I enjoyed a few Wahine volleyball and basketball games when they used to play in Klum. It was literally an old school venue, but too hot and humid on numerous occasions for my tastes.

Comparing it to the Stan Sheriff center is like comparing Letterman on NBC to Letterman on CBS. The new venue looks great and is state of the art, but what it lacks is the cozy atmosphere of the original.
