Lingle's State of the State

Simulcast on the major local TV network affiliates, KSSK AM 590 and on the web, Republican Gov. Linda Lingle (check the spiffy new website!) will lay out, for the record, her vision for the next four years. Will her historic address form a solid launching pad for a successful, bipartisan-led legislative session, or finally put the first cracks — needed or not — in her relatively impressive first-timer's honeymoon?

Her speech is at 10 a.m., with columnists and pundits ready to pounce soon afterward. There are few predictions as to her "key points," but most talking heads agree that she'll have to fill in the blanks in her "Agenda for Change" — put some meat on the bones she's set down so far.

What do you want to hear? Or don't? What did she say? And didn't? How did she do for her first official appearance before lawmakers? Does the fact that she's the first governor from the "opposition party" to do so help or hurt?

I found it interesting that she bowed to pragmatism and backed off on tax cuts, despite the baying from her fellow Republicans in the Legislature.

Did anyone hear Fred Hemmings' comment when asked what he expected to hear? Paraphrasing, it was something like "a dignified, articulate" address. I wondered if he meant that as a dig towards Ben, John and George.
