It has Arrived

While passing through Ala Moana today, I noticed that there were people putting the finishing touches on the Apple Store. The grand opening is Saturday. Despite the fact that this wasn't really announced on Apple's website, there is now a page for the Ala Moana Store.

I'm there!

Thanks for the update!

Woohoo! I'm excited to hear this, as I'll be moving to the area this fall for higher education (UH Manoa). Thanks for posting :)

I heard Apple was coming to Ala Moana Center several months ago (local newspapers).

I know the Star-Bulletin did a story... but you probably could have read about it here first.

I've been watching that space for a while... and I hope to check it out Saturday as well. It depends on how big a line there'll be to get in!

Having an Apple Store is Mac-nirvana! We have one here in Las Vegas at the Fashion Show Mall on the Strip and it's WONDERFUL! You can go in and play with all the systems. I'm finally upgrading my PowerMac (yes, I know it's long overdue) to a snazzy 15-inch flat screen iMac. For my purposes, this computer should serve me well for a long time. I'm also getting a digital camera and finally working on my website! It's like getting your cake and eating it too... I can't wait. This weekend is a geekfest at my place with the new toy!

someone ought to tell the Apple webmaster that the Windward side is not west.

I don't know why, but I am just not excited about this in the slightest bit. Maybe it's because I used to drive by THE Apple store (at Apple headquarters) every single day. It was always exciting when they changed the 40ft banner ad hanging from the side of the building facing 280.

It's okay. One more T-shirt for the rest of us!

Got my shirt! Ogled some iPods! A good day.

Gosh, the damn line was sooo long.... Of course I got there at around 9:25 AM... line was snaked around the central concourse of the mall level and then snaked its way in the back of the stores....

Needless to say, I did not bother to wait just to go into the store... I took some pictures up front then went home and came back at around 3:00 p.m. No line, but the store was quite crowded and er... I ended up buying a new external hard drive for my Power Mac G4... LaCie 120 GB... a nice addition to my 2 internal drives to hold ongoing stuff like a video I am slowly putting together and stash more photos and MP3s.

Not to mention this gave me the excuse to upgrade my system software yet again to OS 10.2.6.

When I saw the long line I could not help but think.. geee.. if this is only 3% of the computing public, I'd hate to have been there if Apple had the 10% of marketshare it long yearns for.

In a nutshell the Apple Store will be a great place to look at and try out the many hi-tech "toys" and gizmos any Mac fan would want. Hopefully they can lure Wintel and ex-Mac users into the fold.

Macs rule.

Got my shirt too! After I got in, drooled, and got out, I wanted to see where the end of the line was, and imagine my shock and surprise when I found my mom at the end of it!

We returned later in the day for actual acquisition, (by that time, they were down to dismantling the ipod pyramid displays to sell), and the 330 gb ipod is sweet. Even if I have no idea how to play that parachute game.

Posted by lemurs on May 18, 2003 8:20 AM:

Uh, that should be a "30 gb ipod", not 330 gb, although I have no doubt that when they come out with one of those, it will be sweet as well.

I got there at shortly after 9, and yeah, pretty much took a quick look and left without a shirt. :(

I didn't see anyone I recognized, either, though I'll admit I didn't look very hard.

I'm mildly surprised none of the shirts have ended up on eBay yet.

Aw, Mitchell, I missed you! From what I can tell, though, people who got in line as late as 9:30 still got shirts, maybe even later. (I joined the queue at maybe 8:45.)

I was expecting the shirt to be a generic Apple shirt, so I was really happy to see the shirts said "Ala Moana" on them. How special! A friend I met there was going to wear hers to the next Apple Store opening in Washington next week.

Didn't get to Ala Moana until well into the afternoon, which meant no t-shirt for me. Got to see that spiffy new iPod though. Just something else for me to drool over. ::sigh::

Correct me if I'm wrong, Ryan, but I don't think there's an Apple store opening in Washington state next week. There was one last week, and it was huge, and they're already hiring for a second store, but that's about it.

Unless, of course, you were talking about Washington, D.C.

Quite right! I'm not hearing and remembering too well in my old age...

Posted by Linkmeister on May 20, 2003 3:00 PM:

Well, hey! Somebody model one of those shirts and put the pic into the Gallery!

Posted by Ryan on May 21, 2003 4:48 AM:

Hey, I'm not even taking mine out of the container... but you can see it that way!

I thought the Apple Store opening was the event of the week, but I just met up with my Mac-loving friend (he's used them since he inherited my old IIsi), and he had no idea. Of course, he'll be down there this weekend...
