Feets don't fail me now!

Hawaii is known as the "Aloha State," and people sometimes refer to it as the "Pineapple State," the "Youngest State," or the "Paradise of the Pacific." Now, a new name could be added to this list -- "Sweetest Smelling Feet State!"

Get a "whiff" of this: According to a consumer sampling conducted by the maker of Odor-Eaters products, Hawaii has the highest per capita consumption of Odor-Eaters products in the nation. In fact, Hawaiians use Odor-Eaters products at a rate more than double the national average.

No talk stink, eh?

WHAAAAAAAAAATTTTTT????

That's the strangest statistic I've ever seen...totally interesting though. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that we're always taking off our shoes before we enter a house? Hmmm.....????????

Also posted to HawaiiNews.com this morning.

What I found most interesting was the quote from our own HTA marketing director, Mr. Haas.

First of all, it doesn't make sense: "beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters, and ocean breezes" are not "activities." (There must have been an edit somewhere.) Secondly, it's a bit contradictory: he's saying we don't wear shoes, isn't he? What does that have to do with smelly feet (if not make for better smelling feet than covered feet)?

Finally, wouldn't he, of all people, know the difference between a Hawaii resident and a Hawaiian? Isn't this in the AP Stylebook already? Or was it just the AAJA addendum?

Sin, of course it has to do with taking our shoes off! You no like go somebody's house with hauna feet. Shame, you know... :-)

Speaking of local feet, I heard somewhere that Liberty House's shoe department used to have a huge selection of extra-wide sizes, compared with mainland shoe stores. Must be 'cuz all the customers were barefoot or in slippers all through childhood, if not their whole lives. I know I always look for the triple-E widths myself.

I love how both of the states where I have lived most of my life, South Carolina and Georgia, were at the bottom of the list.

I have never used Odor Eaters, even though I probably really need them. Check out this romantic Georgia girl washing her feet off in the sink on her honeymoon! See that open porthole? Yeah, my shoes were hanging out of it all night. Sexy sexy!

I like the policy of Don't sniff, don't smell. :)

In foot-related news: (Why do I keep finding this stuff? Help!)

Toe-tapping tootsies are running amuck, trying to get their pretty pedicures online. With five weeks left before the deadline for entries closes, the Fourth Annual "World's Most Beautiful Feet Contest," sponsored by Foot.com and Shoes.com, is heating up.

It's no wonder interest is high this year, according to Donille Perrone, spokesperson for Foot.com. The Grand Prize includes an all-inclusive seven day SuperClubs Caribbean vacation at a resort of the winner's choice, and a chance to start a career as a professional foot model.

"This is an exciting year for the 'World's Most Beautiful Feet,' because we've upped the ante with some great prizes," Perrone says. "In addition to the Grand Prize, all 10 finalists will receive a $100 gift certificate from our co-sponsor, Shoes.com."

"Shoes.com is looking forward to uncovering the World's Most Beautiful Feet and introducing all ten finalists to the world's most stylish shoes," says Mondy Beller, spokesperson for Shoes.com.

Entries will be accepted through August 1, 2003, when ten finalist photos will be posted on Foot.com and Shoes.com so the public can vote for the winner online. Each year voting activity is lively, with finalists pressing friends, family and co-workers to vote their feet into foot fashion fame. The winner will be announced on Sept. 22, 2003.

The "World's Most Beautiful Feet" contest debuted in 2000 on Foot.com as a fun event for the public that is also designed to draw attention to the important issue of foot health. "Millions of Americans suffer needlessly from foot pain when there are treatments and products that can help," Perrone says.

For information or to enter the contest, visit http://www.foot.com or http://www.shoes.com.

Foot fetish? :)

You wouldn't happen to be on a PR mailing list, by any chance? I should send both Odor-Eaters and Foot.com a bill for this promotional consideration...

Posted by Linkmeister on June 23, 2003 3:12 PM:

Not a mailing list, no. I get a daily notice from a biotech news source (biospace.com) which has a link to PRNewswire's pharma, bio, and health care stories. I page through those looking for items for clients. ;)

And thanks for the editing; I was in a hurry. :(
