House Party

Now this is a novel idea. Dean supporters are giving house parties around the country, and one of them is in Lanikai, hosted by Famous Amos! Bake cookies, talk story, beachwalk...might be the most interesting house party of all the ones Dean fans hold.

Is it true that Dean wants to woo the Southern Democrats by recognizing the Dixie flag?

No, no, no. He has no intention of "recognizing" that flag, and didn't say that. What he tried to say (badly) is that all those Southern working folks should be voting Democratic; by voting Republican they're voting against their best interests. It came out as "we need those people driving pickups with Confederate flag decals on 'em." (Paraphrasing)

It was a boneheaded statement. He was saying the Dems can't write off southern white voters. But he said so badly... offending people who object to the confederate flag, and talking down to the people who treasure it.

So far I'm backing Dean, and his is the first U.S. presidential campaign to which I've ever contributed money. That said, while I more than understand the intent of what he said, I found his handling of the fallout to be thoroughly disappointing. I hope he can learn from it.

Now, that's interesting. I had no idea Famous Amos was alive, let alone living in Lanikai! If I had $100 to spare that might be a fun afternoon.

Okay, this is really random but does anyone remember that episode of Taxi (old sitcom w/Danny DeVito) that Famous Amos made a cameo in? Jim (the drugged out taxi driver) came up with this recipie for cookies that were selling like crazy but the catch was the secret ingredient was drugs. Anyway the "spirit" of Famous Amos came to visit Jim to guide him and tell him what to do. Basically he said screw it, sell the cookies and make a ton of money.

I watched too much TV as a kid i know, but please tell me someone remembers that episdoe too.
