HeartWalk
Heart health is near and dear to my... well, heart. I nearly lost my mother to a heart attack when I was only ten years old (though I was too young then to really appreciate how serious things were). Heart problems have hurt many people I love, and frankly, I could take better care of myself. A charity walk isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but every little bit helps.
August 14 brings this year's American Heart Association HeartWalk here in Honolulu. I'll be there. Anyone else?
It's a national fundraising program, but all the money collected in the islands stays in the islands to fight the number one and number three causes of death in the country (heart disease and stroke). I've regularly pledged for friends, but finally, this year through my employer, I'll also be out there walking myself. (And, why, yes, you can sponsor me.)
If you're already walking, speak up, and I'd be happy to sponsor you, too. And if you're not, but thinking about it... maybe we can have a HawaiiStories HeartWalk team?
And how is your heart? Has heart disease touched your life?
