Got Comics?

Saturday was Free Comic Book Day and I knew I should have gotten up earlier so that I could get my grubby hands on a copy of Top Cow’s Tomb Raider or DC’s Justice League, but no…I had to stay up late the night before to putzs around on the web.

We didn't get out to Collectors Maniac, over in Kaimuki on Waialae Ave., till about noon, which was really too late to get free anything, at least not anything good. The only comic they had left was Marvel’s Ultimate Spiderman, which I already have. But Dwayne, part owner of the place, told me I should take it anyway.

Dwayne is cool like that. I'll tell you more about him, his place, and his love for anything Kikaida in another entry.

Since we had a tee time of 11:30 in Mililani, we weren't going to be around for Gecko Books Kailua's distribution of them at 11am. Hubby was a little sad. :(

There were way too many people crowded around the free comics table at Dragon's Lair, and a cursory glance at the titles available didn't strike me as anything I'd stick around to take advantage of.

Like I said before, I'm pretty narrow about the titles I read -- Vertigo and that's about it.

Although I wouldn't mind reading more crime fiction titles in the vein of Ed Brubaker's Scene of the Crime: A Little Piece of Good Night.

I guess I'm glad I live here. I rolled into a near-empty Big Planet Comics at 3 pm and came away with 6 free comics and bought 4. I was looking for The Cat with the Too Big Head and One Other Story That Isn't As Good or Creepy Tiki, but Slave Labor Graphics/Roman Dirge aren't the swiftest. Honukai, what comic was hubby looking for?

I think he was just looking for something interesting.

Dwayne is the coolest. He is solely responsible for my obsessions with Cowboy Bebop and Evangalion. I think that Collector Maniacs is one of the best things about Hawaii.
