Blogger BBQ

I nominate that the Hawaiistories.com ohana throw a shindig with food and fun at the beach. A Blogger BBQ starring us! I think it'd be a great way to meet everyone! Who else thinks this is a great idea?

Thanks, Cheyne. We've actually been talking about something like that.

Now that I'm back in town, I can relentlessly promote May 18 as the date for a Magic Island shindig.

Who's on?

Posted by Linkmeister on May 11, 2002 7:41 AM:

I'm in, but we gotta finalize time quick, because I gotta coordinate with my sister for her taking over an afternoon here.

Posted by ali on May 11, 2002 8:03 AM:

Oh! I am so jealous! Take lots of pictures, okay?

Posted by Ryan on May 11, 2002 8:40 AM:

Wow. That's next Saturday, isn't it?

How's 3 p.m. sound? Not quite lunch, not quite dinner, not too hot, and enough time to chat before it gets dark.

And I imagine we'll do the quintessential local-style pot luck? What would you bring?

Posted by Stella on May 11, 2002 9:51 AM:

Welcome back, Ryan! Apa khabar? (That's Bahasa for "How are you?", in case anybody's wondering which language I've decided to take up today.)

Thank Goodness we still have May 18 in mind - for a while there I thought we'd totally forget about it (I've already got something scheduled in the weeks after that) - and even if there's at least four to seven of us present, I think we can make it just fine. :) As for what I'm going to bring - assuming that someone already has the utensils and the rice pot covered (though I'm more than willing to bring those first!) - I'm thinking about either 1) making brownies or 2) stopping by Foodland on the way over for potato salad and spinach dip with chips. Either way, LMK - sounds exciting!

Who's going to arrange the satellite link for us landlocked folks in the 48 contiguous states?

Posted by Linkmeister on May 11, 2002 10:24 AM:

Um, Ryan, could we make it 1:00 or so? Otherwise for me it's an in-and-out smash & grab kinda thing. I gotta be home to relieve my sis, who's got her own family to think about.

Posted by Linkmeister on May 11, 2002 10:59 AM:

Which isn't to say it all has to revolve around me! :)

Posted by cheyne on May 11, 2002 12:45 PM:

not sure what i'd bring. Maybe a dessert of some sort. i'll decide when I get closer to crossing that bridge. lol.

1:00pm sounds fine.

:( sorry too all our ohana in the mainland. We'll plan a mainland day in the future when we turn blogging into a form of commerce.

Hey, we're easy. Let's go with 1 p.m. on May 18 at Magic Island. Let's hui near the Diamond Head/Yacht Harbor-side bikewalk "gate" (basically a handful of yellow poles keeping cars off the island), before staking out a bench or tree.

Brownies or chips and dip from Stella. I can take the inevitable sticky-rice "rice pot" position, meanwhile. (Unless we're lacking late for a main dish, in which case you'll get a bucket o' KFC outta me instead.)

So. Stella, Link, Cheyne and myself so far... Everyone else?

Posted by Linkmeister on May 12, 2002 12:46 PM:

Ryan, you bring the rice, I'll bring the KFC. Howzat?

Posted by NemesisVex on May 13, 2002 12:09 PM:

I'll be there.

Yeah. I'm funny like that.

Posted by honukai on May 13, 2002 2:28 PM:

Well, I had plans to attend the Baby Expo sat afternoon with some friends, so I'll see if it's something that can be rescheduled.

If so, I can come. If not, I'll be thinking of you all:)

Posted by Ryan on May 13, 2002 4:04 PM:

You've gotta come, Honukai!

We've actually got the Baby Expo on our calendar as well. But it runs 10-7 on Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday. I figured we'd either hit it as soon as it opens on Saturday (usually a good strategy anyway), or save it for Sunday.

Oh, gosh, my schedule is already booked tight as a drum for that day. I've got a church thing in the morning and something else in the afternoon. I think I'm going to have to pass on this one.

Pretty busy for someone who's unemployed, no? (Hopefully not for much longer.)

Sorry...would love to meet you all.

I wish I could fly there to escape my allergies right now. But I guess I'll settle for hearing all about it. If honukai & husband and Linkmeister go, I'll get the real scoop. ;)

I'd even plan a BBQ dinner with my sweetie in honor of the Hawaii Blogpicnic, but, unfortunately, we'll be attending a Fire and Brimstone Pre-Canna event all weekend. Oh, joy. I will have to sneak a blackberry in. That way, I can email folks angstful notes when these "lectures" get to be too much. :)

Posted by Linkmeister on May 14, 2002 8:13 AM:

Keith, I hope you get that job. I had similar experiences when unemployed; the prevailing attitude was along the lines of "you're not working, so of course you'll be there to do this and that. Cautionary note to all those who contemplate working from home; that attitude occasionally still crops up! :)

Posted by Panther on May 14, 2002 9:07 AM:

I'll be there, most likely.

Posted by honukai on May 14, 2002 11:03 AM:

Well, being that I had my friends rearrange their schedules for me in the first place, I don't know how friendly their responses will be. In addition, I'll have to dbl check hubby's sports schedule for Sat.

Anyone have a cell # they want to email me in case I'm late and need to find you guys??

I'll be pretty easy to recognize...Just look for the waddling pregnant lady;)

Posted by Haken on May 15, 2002 12:17 PM:

Baby Aeryn is currently down with the flu and it looks like my wife (who is also pregnant) may be getting ill as well. So depending on how well everyone gets, you'll either see me, or just baby and me, or none. Will keep you all posted.

Posted by Linkmeister on May 17, 2002 10:22 AM:

Somebody gonna bring a sign for ID purposes?

Posted by Linkmeister on May 17, 2002 2:57 PM:

Update: Ryan has a no-doubt-lovely vinyl sign reading "HawaiiStories.com" to look for.

Posted by NemesisVex on May 17, 2002 7:08 PM:

Ryan: you should wear your Diary-X shirt. Big ass X on your back would be hard to miss.

Posted by Ryan on May 18, 2002 8:56 AM:

We're expecting to see:
Chenye - "Maybe a dessert of some sort."
Lisa - Drinks or dessert.
Panther - His charming self.
Stella - Chips and dip or brownies.
Steve/Linkmeister - Bucket o' chicken.
Ryan, Jen, and Katie - Rice (and a tent!)

We're hoping to see:
Peter (and maybe baby!)
Honukai (and her belly!)
Keith H. (five percent chance!)
Meg (get her, Stella!)
You! Yes, you!

Any last minute volunteers for plates and utensils? Of course we can go native. My cellular number is 372-3372. As Steve mentioned, I'll have a sign and a tent (though it might take a bit to set up!). I'll even wear my Diary-X shirt, Greg (someday we'll have a HawaiiStories shirt, too!).

We'll probably set up shop fairly close to the parking lot (to be seen), off to the right (beach side), near a tree/bench.

See y'all there!

Ugh ... it's not just a bad hair day, it's a bad mind day. Unless the mood improves significantly by lunchtime, I may not make it.
