A challenge to our local digital photographers

A French reader sent me this splendid JPEG. It's a very large file, takes awhile to load, but then you can scan horizontally and view Paris at night in a full circular panorama. Let's have one like it for Honolulu! Top of the First Hawaiian Building?

(I suspect the Honolulu version would be more impressive in daylight.)

Wow talk about timing. On Saturday I loaded fresh batteries to my digital cameras so I can take pictures of model rockets launching (and from a rocket itself). However due to a lot of factors I couldn't make it in time and decided not to launch any rockets on Saturday.

I figured on Sunday it would be nice to test the various cameras to see what kind of pictures they can take. Initially I wanted to do it from Diamond Head but opted for Magic Island instead.

Using four different digital cameras and an APS camera. This link will take you to the section within the HawaiiStories Gallery.

On Sunday night I posted two images from each digital camera as a test to compare the images. Will be uploading the pictures from APS camera later on tonight.

OK, I bite! Here's a 360° I shot at the top of Diamond Head. I usually show these in Quicktime VR format, but for the sake of this thread, I posted the flat jpeg. http://www.zztype.com/qtvr/dh.jpg. I have more... will dig around and see.

I've done quite a few VR photos in the past several years. I set up a page linking to many of them at http://www.zztype.com/qtvr/.

While none of mine are as nice or as detailed as the Paris shot, there must be some enjoyment in there somewhere.

Aloha,
Blaine

A diorama of Honolulu without Diamond Head *in the background* is almost blasphemous! :)

Very nice, though, that one from the top, and I hear someone sitting in a dreary office in Paris much enjoyed it.

OK, Diamond Head in the background, you got, along with Punchbowl and a sweeping view of the Airport and the Waianae Mountain Range. http://kapalama.ksbe.edu/foodservices/akahivr.html.

This is a panorama I shot from the balcony of 'Akahi Dining Hall on Kamehameha Schools' Kapalama Campus. 'Akahi is the High School dining facility, high up on Kamehameha Heights.

Aloha,
Blaine

I'm told that extraordinary Paris panorama was done by Arnaud Frich. More fine photographs and notes about his methods, etc., are at:
