There are four hours left in Nov. 1, and I have yet to talk myself into it.
I've thought quite a bit about it, with what little there's been left of my brain, for the last half of October. But part of me just doesn't think I can do it.
I didn't even make it a third of the way last year. I don't want to disappoint myself again.
Then again, as a friend recently said, 10,000 words might not be a novel, but they are 10,000 words.
No matter what, though, I know I'll be reading Vivi's novel!

Well, you know I am. I already want to go back and edit the heck out of the stuff I've got online now, but I must keep on pushing forward. I'm almost at 5,000 words.

I just wish we could all get on the same page. It'd be a whole lot easier to keep track of everyone.
"HI" or "Hawaii?" Which is it?

"I just wish we could all get on the same page."
Would be kinda crowded, no?
Didn't know about "Talk Stink", always good to find some new reading material. Well, especially material worth reading, that is, since heaven knows there's more than enough everywhere without people trying to churn out another 50,000 words. :)

Psst! Just click this nifty link to perform a fresh search on the official NaNoWriMo author database for folks in Hawaii.

Okay, folks, how goes it? I'm so ridiculously behind, I'm wondering whether it'll happen for me this year. (As of this posting, 5,300 words done. Should have 11,000 words if I wrote regularly.)
Thankfully, I've resisted the urge to buy a pack of cigarettes.

You beat me, as of last night I am at 2456 words across 3 chapters. Working on chapter 4 tonight. No idea how much stuff I can write tonight.
Posted by Vivi on November 8, 2002 03:27 PM:
I'm a day behind schedule, but I'm past 10,000 so I am quite pleased with my writing so far.
Although I officially hate all of those participants whose word counts are 20,000+. But not as much as I hate those who have green word count bars. Grrrrr...

I'm so dead. I was right on track... for four days. Then the election (out in Kaneohe until 2 a.m.). Then a birthday dinner with my mom. Then a migrane last night. Then a birthday dinner with my dad tonight.
If I can't find the time to sit down and do 10,000 words in one sitting this weekend, I think it'll be the end of the road for me this year.
But, well, it's better than I did last year, so...

I'm making my concession official.
I'm sufficiently behind in my word count that I've decided to attempt to write as much by the end of the month. There's no way I'll even crack 25,000 words by the end of the month. Who knows?
Who's still plugging away? Who's given up the ghost?
But don't let me pessimism discourage you. (Particularly you, Mr. Ozawa.)

Still plugging away. I know I am behind in the word count too but I might as well still do it.

I surpassed 20k yesterday but I haven't written anything since. I have no idea if I'm finishing the month with 50k. It's still fun as all heck and I'm going to keep writing until the 30th.

As of today, November 28, Hawai'i already has four winners listed on the Nano website including our very own Helen. Congrats! I have around 1550 words left before I hit 50k. But that doesn't mean the story will be done by the time I hit that magic number.
So how was it? Share your tales of triumphs and tragedies in these last few days of November.

Congrats to you too Michelle!!! I just counted 6 from your list that you linked plus another 2 more that I found due to others putting in 'HI' instead of 'Hawaii' in the state.
Do not know about the rest of the Hawaii based writers.

To the folks who didn't finish their novels ...
Will you continue to work on them?
I, for one, would like to see what happens in Turner 454.
Posted by helen on November 29, 2002 08:16 PM:
Well here is one possibilty of Turner 454. Of course it happens in another reality or could it?
Posted by Ryan on November 29, 2002 08:37 PM:
You were reading, Greg? Ah. That makes two.
I'm too in love with the overall story to not finish, I guess. But I think I'll aim for 500 words a month for now. Heh.
Congrats to all the winners, though. For a small state like Hawaii, we're making out quite well!
Of course, now it's time to plan the survivors (for winners and losers) party. I just got my small envelope of Nanowrimo pencils and stickers, and folks are supposed to come out in person to pick them up. Muhahahaha!
(The power of the Municipal Liason!)

Vivi wondered:
So how was it? Share your tales of triumphs and tragedies in these last few days of November.
I did an outline of the story before I started writing it. The outline had references to least 10 characters and about 20 or so plot points.
By the time the novel had reached 25,000 words or so the character list had grown to over 40 characters and I was still around the first plot point in the outline.
I did not know if I was proud that I could write that much or scared that this piece had a long way to go and more text needed to be generated.

In answer to the question:
So how was it? Share your tales of triumphs and tragedies in these last few days of November.
I reached a point with my novel where I just didn't have the heart to force it into existence. Doesn't mean I'm abandoning -- it just means I shouldn't have started a sequel to a story I haven't finished writing yet.
So that makes two novels dealing with the same characters that I haven't finished.
So I've gone back to the first story, and I'm going to endeavor to finish it.
Hmmm ... that sounds like a New Year's Resolution ...

Any O`ahu NaNos up for a survivor's gathering next weekend?
Posted by NemesisVex on October 12, 2003 07:04 PM:
Bumping this old post (probably should start another) to ask: who's plunging into NaNoWriMo 2003?
As my habit, I'm not signing up, but I will attempt to follow along. I've got a mystery planned -- no supernatural creatures in it. I just need to finish reading up on criminal justice to get ready.

Yeah, starting a new thread would be nice since it's a new event.
